The lastest news from Regino’s RV Spot in Progresso Village, Belize is from the local sportfishermen complaining about the Statutory Instrument #115 that was signed into law late last year(14 Sept.,2009). Enforcement by the Coastal Zone Authorities has recently been implemented.
The way the law reads is that “ALL” persons in a boat that carries fishing equipment must have a sports fishing license that cost $100. That is believed to include wives, guests, boat operator, guides everyone in the boat. Bank or dock fishing apparently is included also. With a fine of $500 and/or 6 months in jail.
I have sent the Board of Tourism a request of information on this matter. When I get a clarification on this rumor I will post it. I also asked if this included fresh water fishing.
I used the Belize Tourism Board contact link. If you have any info on this matter please leave a comment or something in the comment section. Click here for the Belize Tourism Board to leave them a comment.

Again I reference Lucy Wallingford's new blog Belize Adventure . In it she describes how to properly select good snorkeling equipment. Having good equipment that properly fits is indeed important. However being able to see and then record what you see for future memories is equally important.
I researched and found a unique way of doing both, seeing underwater and taking photos and videos underwater at the same time.
Liquid Image has developed a line of underwater swimming and diving masks.
They start with a free swimming and snorkeling mask, its yellow color makes it easily identifiable. The mask is rated for dives up to 15 feet deep. The camera can take photos and/or video. In video mode the underwater camera takes approximately a minute of video. The Liquid Image Explorer Series 5.0MP Underwater Digital Camera Mask comes with USB cable and and pre-programed to download your photo memories to your camera.
As one user review claimed: This is a great little camera that works exactly as advertised. I used it last week on a vacation to Key West and the photos and the videos were outstanding. It was really great being able to have my hands free to swim and not having a separate camera to carry around or worry about getting wet. I also felt that my eyes were freed up because I was not constantly putting a camera in front of them to take a picture and possibly miss seeing the scenery in real time. I purchased a 2 GB card to add to the memory and was literally able to shoot hours of video and/or thousands of stills. After several days of use all of the electronics, etc. stayed bone dry and the materials seem to be of pretty substantial quality. I would expect this camera mask to perform for a long time into the future. I felt that this was really a great value for the purchase price.
The next in line is the Liquid Image 5.0MP Underwater Digital VideoMask. It is designed for up to 35 feet. It has attachments for two lamps, one for each side to give full lighting of your subjects. The black color seperates it from the yellow free swimming mask. This mask also comes in a large size. This along with using a silicon gel helps to insure a proper fit.
Finally the blue Liquid Image 5.0M P Scuba Series Underwater HD Video Mask is rated for up tp 115 feet. Naturally this mask would work as a free swimming or shallow diving also. It has all the features of the other mask and is rated for the deeper dives. Different attachments are available, the previously mentioned lamps, extra chips for the memory, and light filters for the deeper dives. The filters are wet mount so you can take them off and replace them according to the lighting needs.
As with any equipment and especially when using in salt water, proper cleaning is very important. Please enjoy the above demonstration video.

Lucy Wallingford’s new blog BelizeAdventure.com recently had a post about traveling to Belize from Cancun by bus. It describes Charlie Woodard’s travel as he landed in Cancun,Mexico and took different buses on a two day trip to Chetumal,Mexico. He then connected with a scheduled bus to Belize for connections to their Eco-tourist Island on Long Caye. At their Belize Adventure Tours they have sea kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling and private cabannas. Since longCaye is a private Island they have exclusive use of the island.
On Lucy’s blog I commented that I had made the trip in reverse. I left Progresso Village by private car and went to the ADO bus station. My friends returned to Belize and the bus left Chetumal about 9:00pm that night and arrived in Cancun early that next morning. I transfered to a shuttle bus for the airport and arrived in time to make the checkin for the early flight to Houston,Texas.
I have checked and there are flights from Chetumal to Mexico City, Mexico for international flight connections. Also there are buses(for bus people), that with connections, can travel to the U.S. border in Texas.

For several weeks now,in Januarary, the Mexican border officials have stopped the passage of Belizian busses at the border. A gamma ray screening process that was closed on the weekend was the problem. This forced the passengers to walk across the Friendship Bridge to Subtiniente Lopez. Mexican transportation was available at that point. After much publicity and public protest the press officer for the Mexican Embassy in Belize, Marcelino Miranda announced that the weekend bus schedule to Chetumal had resummed and Belizian busses may pass through the border at Subtiniente Lopez.
