A RV(recreational vehicle) can be different things to different people. One person hears the phrase RV and thinks of a big shiny hundred grand vehicle, which is OK. Others think of a pickup with an aluminum shell topper. Still others attach a small trailer behind a motorcycle and ride off into the sunset. “SOME” others attach a small trailer and peddle off into the sunset.
When peddling, a lot of planning needs to take place for your daily trips and over night stays. The Kamp-Rite Midget Bushtrekka Bicycle Camper Trailer with Oversize Tent Cot is just such bicycle size adventure. The trailer accomadates two people, so one can pull the trailer and another can carry supplies. With the high price of gas, the bicycle may be an option for people that live close to a park or camp site.
But when motorized RVing is more your “thing” then the next step up is the motorcycle with either side bags or side car or a small towable trailer. Several companies make these small camp trailers, Lees-ure Lite is just one example.
Moving up is the pickup with the shell. This gives you high mobility and less problems with weather, but at a higher cost per mile of travel. A shell with a sleeping platform inside is possible but very restrictive on room. Moving suitcases from the back to the cab inorder to have room to sleep is cumbersome. An alternative is to carry a tent to put at night and sleep in. This leaves the cab free to go to the local restaurant for supper. A trustworty camp ground is needed for this option. Rather than sleeping on the ground, folding cots are much prefered than air mattresses that loose air over night leaving you on the cold hard ground in the morning.
Next time we will move up to a slid-in pickup camper. This is the beginning of what most people think of RVing.
